After more than a decade helping build one of Silicon Valley’s most recognizable venture capital firms, actor-turned-investor Ashton Kutcher is starting a new chapter. Kutcher is stepping away from Sound Ventures, the investment firm he co-founded with entertainment executive Guy Oseary, to launch a new venture capital firm alongside veteran technology investor Morgan Beller.
The move marks a significant shift in Kutcher’s investment career, which transformed him from a Hollywood celebrity into one of the technology industry’s most successful early-stage investors. While Sound Ventures will continue to operate under Oseary’s leadership, Kutcher’s new venture is expected to focus on startups building the infrastructure required for the next generation of artificial intelligence, particularly in areas such as energy, computing infrastructure, and deep technology.
Kutcher’s new partner, Morgan Beller, brings deep experience from both venture capital and the technology sector. Most recently, he served as the general partner at seed-stage investment firm NFX. Beller previously spent several years at Andreessen Horowitz and played a leading role in Meta’s ambitious Libra digital currency project, later renamed Diem.
Although details such as the firm’s name, fund size, and launch timeline have not yet been disclosed, early reports suggest the investment strategy will differ from Sound Ventures. Rather than concentrating on startups with established traction, the new fund is expected to target foundational technologies that could shape artificial intelligence over the coming decade. Infrastructure supporting AI, including energy systems, specialized hardware, and next-generation computing platforms, is increasingly viewed by investors as one of the industry’s largest long-term opportunities.
People familiar with the matter describe the move as the result of evolving investment priorities. Over the years, Sound Ventures has developed into a mature venture capital firm managing nearly $2 billion in assets and raising its fifth flagship fund. As the firm has grown, its investment strategy has naturally shifted toward larger, more established companies requiring different capital structures and longer investment horizons.
Since its founding in 2015, Sound Ventures has built an impressive portfolio spanning financial technology, enterprise software, artificial intelligence, and consumer platforms. The firm was an early backer of companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Brex, Gusto, and World Labs, helping cement its reputation as one of Silicon Valley’s leading early-stage investors. Those investments also established Kutcher as far more than a celebrity investor, with industry observers frequently praising his ability to identify emerging technology trends before they reached the mainstream.
